Copyright Information and Resources

Maintaining Copyright Compliance

Copyrighted materials posted in your online course site should meet TEACH Act and Fair Use guidelines. A general rule is that the TEACH Act gives teachers the right to use copyrighted material once and only once in the face to face as well as online classroom. Subsequent uses require permission of the author.

We recommend first investigating whether or not the UMD library subscribes to a database that includes the material you are looking to use. If so then you can link directly to the journal or article from your course site. The library has more information here, http://www.lib.umassd.edu/reference/CreateLinks.html#Copyright
If you have additional questions related to copyright and your online course, please contact Instructional Development at 508.999.8501 to request a consultation.
